Zimbabwe’s opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has taken control of the parliament – the first time since 1980. MDC’s leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, is also claimed to have won the presidential election, but the official result is not out yet.
For Zimbabwe, a once prosperous nation, this news has to be good news. If the predicted result is born out then the pressure will be Morgan Tsvangirai’s government to turn around the Zimbabwian economy. How far this will be possible only time will tell, but for now ever body should be happy that both Robert Mugabe and his Zanu-PF has gotten a well deserved bloody nose.
