WWII tunnel survey

Grenade pit at the bottom of entrance stairs

As those of you who have followed me last week on Twitter and and Facebook will know, I undertook a survey of a complex of WWII tunnels in Newhaven last week. The tunnels, known as HMS Forward, runs for about 400m and they are about 60 feet undergound. I have placed some photos of the tunnels on my Facebook profile here: . It was dark and relatively tidy, with stale (but safe) air at the far end. The tunnels were abandoned at the end of the second world war. Geoff our guide last week has worked very hard to establish the history of the tunnels. If you can have a look at his http://www.secret-tunnels.co.uk website.
