The CEO of Severn Trent is one of the top-paid water company bosses, taking home £3.2m/year in 2024 and 2023 and earning a total of £13m since 2021. Severn Trent has paid out over £562m in dividends over the last two years while dumping sewage over 100,000 times in 2023 and 2022.
Across Shropshire, between 2021 and 2023, there have been 13,062 spills for 114,554 hours.
Between 2021 and 2023, Severn Trent discharged sewerage into Common Brook by Whittington in 3 places on 41 occasions for a combined 227 hours and 19 times into Weir Brook by West Felton for a combined 122 hours. That’s 60 times dumping sewage for 349 hours!

Privatisation of the water industry has been a complete failure, and we hear its impact on your doorstep every day.
The water companies need to clean up their own mess. It’s time for a tax on water company profits to fund clean-up efforts in areas like Whittington and West Felton. Ofwat is toothless and needs to be scrapped. The current system with high bills is totally unfair to local people.
