David is a Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor who has spent the last 15 years working for one of the country’s most successful planning consultants, Green Planning Studio, as their IT Manager / Surveyor. David has worked as a Surveyor for nearly 40 years on many prestigious projects across the country, including The Millenium Dome & The London 2012 Olympics.

David believes in hard graft and working hard for residents all year round. Problems rarely happen at a convenient time or in sunny weather. David keeps in touch regularly with Focus leaflets and knocking on doors because listening to the issues you care about is essential. County councillors get paid large allowances, so it is only right that councillors do an effective job.

David is a volunteer trustee on two charities, providing housing for hard-pressed people and supporting the poor. David volunteered with the vaccine roll-out during the Covid-19 outbreak. He often mucks in and will work with anybody to get an issue resolved. David is a strong team player and has the strategic vision that has so often been lacking at Shropshire Council.

David’s work experience & knowledge
- Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor / qualified Commercial Drone Pilot
- Nearly 40 years experience in Land Surveying and Construction Site Engineering
- 15 years working for one of the country’s most successful Planning Consultants
- Owner of a small business in Shropshire supplying drone land surveying and mapping services

Nearly 40 years working as a surveyor
As a chartered civil engineering surveyor for nearly 40 years, I have mapped and set out sites for infrastructure work for railways, canals, roads, rivers, electricity, telecoms, water and gas. Survey work for land and assets management, renovation and restoration, flood defence, loss adjustment, boundary disputes and disaster recovery. More recently, I have qualified as a commercial drone pilot, providing drone-based surveys through my small business
Prestige projects
I have been involved in many big projects, such as the London 2012 Olympics, the Millenium Dome, West Coast Main Line upgrades, the Northern Relief Road (M6 Toll), and mapping the West Midlands Safari Park. I have worked for Government Departments, local government agencies, public bodies, and private clients on asset management, infrastructure, building and environmental restoration, preservation, protection, and mitigation schemes.

As a councillor, I have served on planning committees at every level. Often, I was the only person in the room who understood the information in the site drawings. For 15 years, I have worked for one of the country’s most successful planning consultants to assist in their work to help clients gain lawful permission or to help defend against inappropriate development. As a supporter of good design and proper town planning, I find Shropshire Council’s planning policy framework frustrating. Too often, we have seen unsound policies leading to inappropriate development without the necessary infrastructure to support it.
