More financial mismanagement news from Shropshire Council as we learnt that the council gave the Chief Exec a £124k payout after he was fired. The Chief Exec was fired in April 2020 in the middle of a flooding crisis when he was doing a good job dealing with the crisis. He must have been doing something right during this tenure after getting a near 50% pay rise of £47k in 2018 on top of a 20% pay rise in 2016.
At the beginning of the month, it was also revealed Shropshire Council incurred £476k pension costs directly related to his departure. That is £600k in total costs for firing the Chief Executive but we still don’t know why he was fired!
It is worth noting again that the average pay in Shropshire is £25k. The £124k payout is a mind-boggling number that is hard to comprehend for most people in Shropshire.
Shropshire Deserves Better and residents so very nearly got that last May. Again the Conservatives will be overjoyed that this news has come out after the election. Although, it has to be said that Peter Nutting was fire by the electorate last May when he sensationally lost his Copthorne seat to the Liberal Democrats.
